CT (b) confirmed that the mass was of adrenal origin and also showed that it had a relatively low attenuation suggestive of adrenocortical origin. In this situation, a biochemical screen is indicated to determine whether or not there is evidence of endocrine disease. If this is normal a follow-up scan should be done to exclude an increase in size, indicative of malignancy. Non-functional adrenal masses are quite frequently found on CT and surgery is unwarranted in most cases.
